Contemporary Stained GlassAbout Contemporary Stained Glass
Contemporary Stained Glass designs express concepts for action today. Symbols or human figures integrate with modern clean-lines, color and movement.
Leaded stained glass is the traditional form found in most churches. In leaded stained glass windows, pieces of glass are put together with strips of lead to form designs. Very often the glass is painted to provide fine details, however, the form is flexible and can be used to make modern designs and even abstracts. A variety of lead sizes, glass types, textures, and techniques are often used in a single design. Flowing lines and curves, asymmetry, and stylizing of figures and symbols replace the symmetry, realistic detail, and formal borderwork of traditional stained glass. Windows can be representational or completely abstract, and glass painting is minimized. Many are designed to provide an emotional impact with strong colors and large forms.
